Heroism’s Avail
By: Karlee DuBard
The bout had begun.
All seemed well and good.
But the focus was not fun.
She stepped to the line.
She looked for the sign.
All lights were green.
The pressure swollen in both trenches.
Hearts pounding in all directions.
The walls closing in,
As the warriors sought the decision.
The heroes completed their task.
The good got what they came for.
All at once, struggle had become victory.
In turn, however, victory became despair and disbelief.
As summarily as our heroes had won,
This was not the case in the eyes of the disillusioned official.
In the minds of all, *still in the clothes she was wearing,
She smacked face first to the floor.*
To no avail, all protested and protested.
To no avail. To no avail.
"Still in the clothes she was wearing, she smacked face first to the floor."
